     I'm sure we all have our favorite flavor (just like ice cream).  Mine 
     is Solaris.  Basically I like to be aligned with the vendor that every 
     software company ports to first.  HP is also a good choice for the 
     same reason.
     
     Other considerations include stickier subjects such as support call 
     response times and local availability of vendor and third party 
     support.
     
     I think your plan of using an Intel based Unix is sound - that way you 
     allow for a swap of OS if something bad should happen ( such as a 
     political maneuver, as is being discussed in the
