Sorry for the delayed posting.

We have a similar requirement but use Gauntlet as the firewall.  Not being 
convinced of Exchange security outside our network we are testing a POP3 server 
inside connecting to the SMTP connection of Exchange (in our case this is 
already in use to connect to Internet).  Remote users use Netscape (or Eudora) 
via a MODEM connection through the firewall.  All it requires is Port 25 access. 
You can also use SecureID over it if you wish.

I can't see any reason why this would not work with FW1.
