This is standard behaviour for Netscape. It allows you access to Java
objects in JavaScript, which means you can access the NET object and methods
like get ip address from the local host. IE does not allow this. IMO I like
being able to access Java objects from JavaScript as this gives you a lot
more flexibility ito designing GOOD (tm) web pages. As for IE - what's there
to say about that piece of crap. IE will allow a Java applet the same
access.
As for security risks, what risks are there if you're behind a firewall with
a private ip address and this ip is obtained on the net by a hacker? This
person still needs to break thru the firewall - and if he's good enough to
do that than he will be good enough to stealth scan your entire network to
pick up every single ip and service. No Java or Netscape required... :-)
