What has this thread got to do with Firewalls.
I thought this mail list was to do with the technicalities and to a
certain extent the management issues associated with firewalls and
secure networking. All I'm getting is polotocal flag waving and axe
grinding.
Signal to noise ratio is dropping daily.
Please, if you want to discuss US/Israeli/Arab law do it somewhere else.
Thanks,
Mike

I'm not a legal expert, but since you are referring to the Maryland
murder
case I'll comment on some things that I've understood from the press
here
on that case. Don't take this as any source of authority since we
all know how the press understands complex things.
The problem there is that Israeli law dictates that if he is a citizen,
then he must be tried and sentenced here. He cannot be extradited.
If I understand things correctly with that case, the reason the US
objects
so strongly to that happening is that a life sentence in the US is
going to keep him in jail for a long time while here he might be
elligable
for parole sooner.
If anyone knows what Israeli law actually states feel free to correct
me.
However, I would suggest that if the US wanted there is likely a way
that he could be tried and sentenced in Israel.
According to local law (this is from a radio show the other night) the
penalty for breaking into a computer is 3 years in jail. However, if
the computer is then used to break into another system then the penalty
for
the first break-in is 5 years.
