I have recently encountered an interesting problem
concerning users on my list. A number of subscribers on
my list got together & requested that another member be
removed. The reason for the request seems to be ethic
violations concerning personal flames among other
things.
My advice: do not get involved in what transpired between two
list members outside your presence.
I expect every neighborhood has to confront this dichotomy at some point
- the generous all-inclusive team versus the corrosion of the noxious
minority. Your reaction possibly depends on such matters as the mission
of the list and the degree of disruption.
If a list were formed merely to shadow the tips and techniques of the
Blitzvig OS, then off-stage wrangling would not overly fluster the
flock. However, were that harassment to comprise indecent or
threatening vile garbage directed at an individual, a gender, an ethnic
group, then a listmeister might well take note.
If, on the other hand, your list is regarded by the meister and those
who make it what it is as a community in every sense like those of old,
then behavior which detracts will and should be marked. You are part of
a garden party of friends, or a wedding reception, whereas the first
example more closely resembles a work-related seminar in which you only
want to gather the hand-outs and beat traffic home.
In five years, hundreds of users have joined Nerdnosh. You simply
cannot cast a net that wide without drawing in carp. There have been a
very few exiles in the Nosh, and in each case the delay in cutting the
chaff was more to be regretted than the loss of the trouble child. In
every case.
Mileage may vary, etc, etc.
