Eh??? base64 encoding is a formal standard. uuencode encoding is
a defacto standard. Either is easily recognized and reliably
handled.
The folks who run binary scanning 'bots (I got me one o' those!)
prove it every day.
I proved it to myself when I wrote the binary striping code for
the Deja News NNTP server. Believe me, this is not rocket science.
