The correct answer at this point is to refuse to answer him in any way
except through his lawyer.  If you have a lawyer on retainer send the
lawyer's name/address/phone and tell him to go through him/her.  It is
pointless to discuss anything with anyone who has threatened to sue and
could be damaging to you if the other person actually has a case.

But, that said, anyone offering a service will eventually get threatened
by a suit.  Every list manager will probably go through this at some
point.  Bottom line, it is a private resource that you offer at your
discretion, and you have the right to refuse service to anyone for ANY
reason other than a few matters of discrimination and other factors that
probably don't apply.

I have been threatened with suits a handful of times over list activities.
They always go away because they have zero chance and they know it.  One
of them even thought her Internet access fee paid for my list and
threatened me over that which gave me a good chuckle and made up for her
comparing me to Hitler.
