The guy who maintains our archive ended up writing a quickie little
filter to watch for that and some other bugs (he's the type who
believes Perl is the perfect solution to everything  :-)  :-)  ).

The broken header was the date field.  The archiver uses the date field
to index everything and it was apparently failing there.  I don't have
a clue what software is being used to archive my list, though it was
almost certainly freeware.
