In the immortal words of Monty Python, "Wait! I'm not dead yet!"... :-)
Unfortunately, while I'd like to blame this weekend's glitches on
somebody else, I can't; it's all my fault.
I am, indeed, moving to Australia, but I don't leave for another
couple of weeks. The various domains and lists that I administer are
all staying here in the USA, however. The pair of BSD boxes that
they've been running on for years are getting kinda long in the
tooth, and have started getting unreliable lately. While they were
in the closet under my staircase, that didn't really matter, because
I could go kick them at will, as needed. Simon Cooper (my coauthor
on Building Internet Firewalls, 2nd Edition) has been good enough to
offer my machines a home while I'm in Oz. I don't want to stick him
with a pile of ever-flakier hardware to deal with, though, so I'm
trying to get everything moved onto a single, up-to-date, reliable
machine before I leave.
As part of putting everything onto a single machine, I wanted to
switch to Majordomo2, for two reasons. First, the original Majordomo
is essentially dead, unmaintained code at this point, and I wanted to
get some experience with Majordomo2 before it is officially
"released". Second, I'm hoping that using Majordomo2 will encourage
its developers to actually go ahead and release it. Third,
Majordomo2 supports virtual domains much more easily than Majordomo,
and I needed that capability in order to get everything onto a single
machine.
Ideally, I would have made this change weeks ago, to allow more "soak
time" before I leave, but I've been busy with other more urgent
preparations. C'est la vie.
So anyway, I've fixed (I think) the digest numbering, and switched
all digest subscribers from MIME-format (the default chosen by the
Majordomo2 conversion script) to text-format digests. Next, I'm
going to work on getting the archives back online and up to date.
I'm sure there will be other glitches, but please bear with me as I
work through them.
