While I don't like HTML email, the dinosaurs died for a reason: failure
to adapt to changing conditions. From an administration and security
PoV the only bits that really worry me about HTML in email are rogue
JavaScript and use of web bugs in HTML email for
post-tracking/privacy_invasion.
Javascript I can filter and strip from mail going to the list. There
are some slightly non-trivial bits, but its doable. Properly tagging
and stripping references to non-message hosted content in HTML email
without also crippling/stripping the actually useful aspects of HTML
email however is a bitch. Perhaps I've been overlooking the obvious but
I've yet to come up with a scheme for that I can't also trivially poke
holes in.
