The value of GMane is primarily not to list owners, but to list
readers/members. GMans gives them:
a) A potentially compleat spool of all prior posts, searchable in
standard NNTP fashion.
b) Ability to use their favourite NNTP client instead of an MUA. Many
prefer their netnews clients to MUAs, and find them better featured
and more flexible.
c) No or lesser requirement to subscribe to the subject lists. They
just add/remove themselves from the matching newsgroups in standard
netnews fashion.
