You assume that everyone out there knows that Majordomo has something
to do with GreatCircle.  If you never installed MD then you most
likely don't know this.

I see no such implication in the list description.  I don't run
majordomo, nor do I plan to, but I joined this list because it is
about running lists, not about any particular software.
