Next, I would check whether /bin/sh (which most probably exists) knows where basename is. And there is this slight possibility that your shell does not like the space in the first line, and expects it like: #!/bin/sh -YA From majordomo-users-owner@greatcircle.com Thu Jun 19 06:06:48 2008 Received: from dalexmm01.acs-inc.com (dalexmm01.acs-inc.com [63.101.151.3]) by mycroft.greatcircle.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 601EC4D010F for ; Thu, 19 Jun 2008 06:06:46 -0700 (PDT) X-ExtLoop1: 1 X-IronPort-Anti-Spam-Filtered: true X-IronPort-Anti-Spam-Result: AnQAAD/2WUg/V6pIo2dsb2JhbACSTQEBAQEJBQgHEZ0uAQ Received: from unknown (HELO atlexbr04.CORPATL.COM) ([63.87.170.72]) by dalexmm01.acs-inc.com with ESMTP; 19 Jun 2008 07:59:28 -0500 Received: by anc0lw00009864.ghs.oneacs.com with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2657.72) id ; Thu, 19 Jun 2008 09:04:10 -0400 Message-ID: From: "Caldwell, Cedric" To: 'Daniel Liston' Cc: "'majordomo-users@greatcircle.com'" Subject: Re: Install Q&A Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2008 09:04:09 -0400 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2657.72) Content-Type: text/plain X-Archive-Number: 200806/8 X-Sequence-Number: 5738 Using perl 5.8.5-12 Linux version 2.6.9-5.ELsmp (bhcompile@decompose.build.redhat.com) (gcc version 3.4.3 20041212 (Red Hat 3.4.3-9.EL4)) /etc/passwd, /etc/group and /etc/shadow check out ok referencing "majordomo". Not a programmer so I'm not sure > this is needed. The only C file I see is a pretty trivial majordomo-1.94.5/wrapper.c It is not C++. Reading between the lines ... If you are not machine owner, then maybe you do not have root priveleges ? You need to have root password to install majordomo succesfully. If you have root, pay careful attention to majordomo documenation/ scrips where it may talk of UID GID ownership, modes, S bit etc. Or if you do not have root password, ask your sys admin to install majordomo for you. > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Daniel Liston [mailto:dliston@sonny.org] > Sent: Thursday, June 19, 2008 2:33 AM > To: Caldwell, Cedric > Cc: 'majordomo-users@greatcircle.com' > Subject: Re: Install Q&A > > Once you have confirmed that your Makefile is correct, that you have > located perl > located cc (or gcc) > defined uid and gid of your majordomo account/user > provided a $HOME directory that is NOT the current directory where you > extracted the tarball > > What VERSION of perl and gcc are you using? > What version of linux/unix are you running? > > What do the /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, /etc/group lines containing "majordom" > look like? > > Do they match what you used in Makefile? > > From the tarball extraction location, where you edited Makefile, did you > .. > > make wrapper > make install > and as ROOT > make install-wrapper > > I just ran through all of this successfully on a redhat 7.2 system with perl > 5.6.1 > > Dan Liston > > Caldwell, Cedric wrote: > > Makefile was configured, and user account "majordomo" and "listserv" group > > exist in the config file. > > > > Fails when I use root and or majordomo account. > > > > > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: majordomo-users-owner@greatcircle.com > > [mailto:majordomo-users-owner@greatcircle.com] On Behalf Of Daniel Liston > > Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2008 7:10 PM > > To: Caldwell, Cedric > > Cc: 'majordomo-users@greatcircle.com' > > Subject: Re: Install Q&A > > > > Are you certain you did not want those commands separated by a > > semicolon? > > > > The only part of majordomo that requires "make"ing is the > > wrapper.
