# I just started a list using Majordomo and after a week's time my
# subscription list has grown to just shy of 90 entries. Tonight, my
# sendmail process started kicking out mail sent to the list, aborting
# on the number of entries associated with the list's alias.
#
# The error comes back looking like this:
#
# ----- Transcript of session follows -----
# can't get working directory; will try to continue
# argument list too long
# uux failed. code 70
# 554
#
# (lots of addresses deleted)
# .... 554 Internal error

# ----- Unsent message follows -----

# Can anyone provide some insight into how I can get around this? I am
# running the list on a NeXT machine running NeXTSTEP 3.0.

This would seem to be a problem with your version of sendmail.
The biggest list I know of being run by Majordomo is my own Firewalls
mailing list, with 766 users (I'd be interested to hear if anybody
knows of any bigger ones, by the way). The version of Sendmail that
Sun ships (based on something prehistoric, like 5.59 or earlier) seems
to work just fine.
The latest version of sendmail (5.67) is available for anonymous FTP
from FTP.UU.NET, file networking/mail/sendmail/sendmail-5.67.tar.Z.
It might work better than what NeXT ships, but I don't know.
