The "." directory should be group "daemon", not "majordomo".
"wrapper" should be both setuid _and_ setgid to "majordomo" (and
definitely should NOT be setuid to "root"!).
If this is an NFS-mounted filesystem, having wrapper setuid to "root"
would explain your problems, because the NFS server is going to remap
"root" to "nobody" on any file accesses.
