Brent writes in the README file for his digest scripts:

   This does not automatically increment issue numbers or send the
   message; it just creates a properly formatted digest and spits it to
   stdout.  Both of these can be done in a simple wrapper tailored to
   how things are set up at your end.

My question is: has anyone written anything which *does* automatic
incrementing of a digest's volume and number?

I don't perl (nor nit), but I do a heckuvalotta implementing... any
help out there?
