i am trying to piece together exactly where my problem lies. sometimes
sendmail delivers [or attempts to deliver] a message to resend, and
resend silently fails to return anything at all. i get an entry in
/var/log/syslog that looks like:

are all of these "locked" messages normal? why did 22 minutes pass between
the "from" message and the "to" message?
three empty (zero-byte) files were created in /var/spool/mqueue at the
time of the "from" message:

i would have expected these to contain some trace of the message i was
trying to send.
one other curious symptom--none of my subscribers have reported the
vanishing-message syndrome to me. it seems to affect only me.
what is going on? aaaaaagh.
