I'm sure the Majordomo wizards in the group are tired of digest questions
now but the information on how to set it up is just not dummy proof I'm
afraid. Anyway here goes:
I'm using Majordomo 1.62 to run a couple of mail lists. There have been
requests that these lists be available in digest format. So I got the
digest.shar file and extracted it. I've set up all the aliases just like
in the firewalls example Brent included in the shar file. I've also setup
the .cf file and the .header, .trailer, .num and .vol files as well.
So here's my question: I am successfully archiving the mail messages and
a digest file called 001 (vol=1 and num=1) is being created with the
messages in it. But how do I send this digest out now. The list-digest
aliases are in place but I don't know what the list-digest-send alias
really does and how do I send this 001 file to the members of the digest
list. I'm assuming a cron job that runs each evening is the way to go but
I'm not sure yet how to set it up properly. I guess the cron job will ahve
to increment the vol and num files as well. Finally, do the mail messages
have to be archived using the list-archive alias or can you just use the
list-digestify alias alone? I'm planning on keeping the digested versions
around for a couple of weeks at a time before they are wiped out (I guess
another cron job) but I don't need each file to be archived unless that's
necessary for digest. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
