When I read this note, I was concerned enough that I sent private mail to
John Rouillard, who suggested I share this with the list. The bottom line
is that people in the know can (under most circumstances) find out who is
on any list. The following commands will expand (again under most
circumstances) a private majordomo list:
telnet your.mail.host 25
helo
expn your.private.list
quit
So if it is very important to you that the members of a list NOT be known
to the world, you should take the above into consideration.
Versions 8 and later of sendmail do allow you some leeway in allowing the
world to execute the expn command, but whether it works at your site or
not depends on how sendmail was installed.
