implementing the advertise variable

I'm testing things for an upgrade to 1.92, and I'm confused about the
advertise variable in the listname.config file.

The README says this version has:

        The ability to hide a list when a "lists" command is issued,
            provided that the person making the request is not on the list.

But in the samples and FAQ it seems like all I can do is exclude or
include everybody, or explicitly named sites.  How am I supposed to
work it so it only shows the list if you're a member?
