I have two versions of Perl (The one that came with my Slackware distrib)
and one I got in the Alpha Directory. One with a perl -v reads:

This is perl, version 4.0

$RCSfile: perl.c,v $$Revision: 4.0.1.8 $$Date: 1993/02/05 19:39:30 $
Patch level: 36

Copyright (c) 1989, 1990, 1991, Larry Wall

Perl may be copied only under the terms of either the Artistic License or the
GNU General Public License, which may be found in the Perl 4.0 source kit.

the Perl 5 I got shows:

This is perl, version 5.0, Alpha 6 (unsupported)

$RCSfile: perl.c,v $$Revision: 5.0 $$Date: 92/08/07 18:25:50 $
Patch level: 0

Copyright (c) 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 Larry Wall

Perl may be copied only under the terms of either the Artistic License or the
GNU General Public License, which may be found in the Perl 5.0 source kit.

With perl5 I get an error (255) from Sendmail, With the perl 4.x.x.x It
just sits there and waits. I have been trying to get this to work for 2
months now and am having no luck.
