Subject: Problems with approve under perl 5 (OSF/1)

I'm having problems with the "approve" script under perl 5. It works
great under perl 4.036 on another system, but not under perl 5 on worf,
an osf/1 system. Unfortunately, I have no way to compile perl 4.036 on
this system, and the other system is extremely slow (i.e.
constantly-saturated link).

So what, oh what, do I do? The approve program is a really neat
automation, but I can do it manually in the mean time.
