LISTSERV-style message Index

Has anyone implemented a LISTSERV-style message index function?  That is, 
make available to people a list of messages with subject, author and 
number of lines  of each message?  I know the "index" command is already 
taken, but the code could be hacked up.  Before I start, I was hoping 
someone else had already implemented it.

I seem to remember somewhere in the back of my brain that this question 
had come up recently and the answer was no, but I'd like to hear it myself.
