That was my first thoughts, but given greater consderation I can see there are
advantages in having this type of vacation command.

The advantage is not for the subscriber but for the list owner/approver.

With a vacation command the subscriber still has to send two messages as above.
The list owner/approver would not need to approve the resubscription when the
subscriber returns from vacation as they are already a member of the list.

I think listserv has 'mail' and 'no mail' commands but I could be wrong.
