MD admins,
I have been using MD for only a few weeks but have just run across an
odd situation. It seems I have too many mail interfaces on my system.
Here is the info: I have a list running on an Ultrix machine and
perl4.036, runs fine. I created a closed, restricted, non-advertised list.
When a member of the list asks for a list of who is on the list (who
testlist) they get the response that they are not on the list so can't
have that information even though they appear in the subscriber list and
get the mail sent to that list. This response depends on which MUI they
use.
The problem is the way the MUI forms the From line. mail and elm don't
attach the host name while pine, Eudora and NUPop do. Yes, all of these
are used on my system.
mail, elm give:
philip
pine, Eudora and NUPo givep:
philip@haas.berkeley.edu
on the 'From' line so when MD looks in the subscriber list it see
philip
and works fine for mail and elm but not for pine, Eudora and NUPop.
Partial solution is to put BOTH in the subscriber list
philip
philip@haas.berkeley.edu
and MD only sends out 1 message (I think sendmail is figuring this out).
It's only a partial solution because if I do a 'who' on the list now I get
the entire list which is twice as many names as really get the mail.
This situation won't work when I move a couple of our BIG lists (>800
users) over to MD from our home grown script.
Advertise dosen't have any effect on this, it only works on the command
'lists'.
Has anyone else run into this problem? And how did you over come it? It
seems that MD should do a bit of testing on names when figuring out who
commands, probably which commands too. Any help would be appreciated,
thanks.
