Hi Michelle,

The only way that I could get Majordomo to work on Linux was to compile
the Perl 5.001l myself. I had that exact exploding memory problem. I'm
not sure what the cause of the problem was. It may be that Perl's
internal version of the memory allocation routine, (it has its own
malloc), doesn't work with Linux. Or, it may just be the version or
Perl... I'm not sure. Permissions--as mentioned in the Majordomo FAQ--are
not the only thing to watch out for with Majordomo under Linux.
Permissions are something to watch out for no matter which platform you
are using.

There has been so much traffic on this list about Linux and this stupid
memory problem, that somebody should probably warn people about this
before more people go out and waste a lot of time on this, like I did (how
about the FAQ?).

If people don't feel comfortable about compiling their own version of
Perl 5.001l, I would be willing to put the binaries up for FTP somewhere.

Zach
