I am finally getting enough schmutz from my mailing list to motivate me to
get the Bounces list up and running. I'm not sure exactly what I expected,
but I'm not sure I expected what I got. Most of the error messages I have
are from people that have weird mail addresses or used the LWGate software
and typed their e-mail address incorrectly. I'm getting all the bad
messages still, but rather than them coming from <listname> sending out its
message, I'm getting it from Bounces sending out its message.
In my aliases file I currently have
owner-bounces: jeff@trg.saic.com, nobody
and I'm wondering if I should remove my own address and just let those all
pipe into the bit bucket. Is this what I *should* have done, and just
didn't catch it in the FAQ, README, and O'Reilly? Would it be bad to have
owner-bounces just point to nobody?
Also, I subscribed myself to bounces just so I could see the kind of
messages people were receiving. At the bottom of the bounces message it
says
>If you need to contact a human being regarding this, send a message
>to majordomo-owner@trg2.saic.com.
which I find curious because all the other 'owner' e-mail addresses have
owner in front (i.e. owner-majordomo@trg2.saic.com). I was good and
followed the directions when establishing the list and therefore have a
proper majordomo-owner alias (it points to owner-majordomo) but I thought
it was an outdated format.
