Majordomo does a pretty good job of transferring text files via mail.

ftpmail helps when the files are not just plain text.

To experiment with a working archive, message to:

"majordomo@taex001.tamu.edu"
index ham
index ham-digest

try a get on one or two. ftpmail is not installed there.
