Last-ditch effort:

303/usr/local/mail/lists> sort alamo-apa >aa-test
304/usr/local/mail/lists> vi aa-test (or whatever)
 --- manually delete the duplicates ---
305/usr/local/mail/lists> rm alamo-apa; mv aa-test alamo-apa

vi doesn't have a duplicate record tagger like some other editors, but it should be pretty obvious if there's a duplicate, misspelling, double @ sign or the like.  Once you save the file, make sure all the permissions are correct!

As for the idea of no duplicates being in the list file and it still doing that?  Well...sheesh, I...gawrsh, I dunno.
