Wow, I thought I had a big list. I manage a list with over 6000 addresses,
but that doesn't compare to 20,000.
Regardless, expect the following (but I'm sure there's more):
Long wait times between the time a message is submitted to the
list and the time it is actually sent out (I've experienced
delays of over a day at times; depends on system speed)
Many MANY error messages such as User Unknowns, etc etc.
Having to deal with all these users on a personal basis
Approving messages (if it allows discussion, it can get wild; if
it's only announcements, then it's not so bad)
Among many other things....the worst part of it is cleaning up the list
with bad addresses. I am hired by an organization to handle 13 lists, one
of them which contains all of the subscribers (over 6000) and the others
which hold only a bunch of them (about 1000 each list; some people are on
more than 1 list). This is the main focus of my job and I receive, on
average, about 75-100 bounces a day. It's overwhelming at first, and still
is once you get used to it, but you'll learn how to deal with it. <g>
Good luck!
