Cannot be done given how Mj currently operates.  Mj does not store any
kind of "user information" other than the subscription address, unlike
listserv/listproc which stores a whole bunch of data.

Digested Mj mailing lists are themselves mailing lists "gated" from the
undigested mailing list.  To switch you unsubscribe from one and
subscribe to the other.

This is the default behaviour for closed mailing lists.

He unsubscribes and resubscribes, which is really not all that much
different from sending a nomail command followed by a mail command.
Again, this is due to the fact that Mj does not store anything other
