these postings only recently started coming from aol; previously they
came from various other sources. i've despaired of actually tracking
this asshole down, so after some experimentation, i did the following:
i observed that i wasn't using the administrivia filter, so i rewrote
that section of the perl code; it now checks for strings that have been
observed as elements of every single magazine spam posting ever sent out
(i've kept copies going back some time, and have a good set to check
for.)
having done this, and turned administrivia on, these postings now never
make it to the list.
your other option is to limit the maximum permitted incoming message; i
have a restriction of 10k characters now, which is sufficient to trap
most all of the digests accidently mailed back by novice members. this
would also be enough to catch the magazine spammer, so long as his
messages continue to be as large as the 13K value you mention.
cheers,
richard
