[...problems with majordomo and infinite looping and disk activity etc.
Can you give us the apropriate line from /etc/passwd (ie the majordom user)
and any lines from /etc/group that contain majordom. Just for sanity.
For reference here are mine.
nick% grep majordom /etc/group
bin::1:root,bin,daemon,nick,majordom
majordom::102:nick,majordom,bin,daemon
The above (making majordom part of the bin group) instantly solved all my
problems (which were similar to yours) though is a little more insecure
than majordomo is supposed to be.
nick% grep majordom /etc/passwd
majordom:*:508:102:Majordomo:/usr/local/majordomo:/dev/null
and also for reference, one set of list files in my /usr/local/majordomo/lists
directory reads:
drwxrwxr-- 2 majordom majordom 1024 May 1 20:14 ./
drwxr-xr-x 7 majordom majordom 1024 May 1 20:14 ../
-rw-rw-r-- 1 majordom majordom 976 May 1 20:14 colm-wilkinson-l
-rw-rw-r-- 1 bin bin 42926 May 1 16:53 colm-wilkinson-l.archive
-rw-rw-r-- 1 majordom majordom 0 May 1 15:27 colm-wilkinson-l.auto
-rw-rw---- 1 majordom majordom 12188 May 1 16:03 colm-wilkinson-l.config
-rw-rw-r-- 1 majordom majordom 528 May 1 16:41 colm-wilkinson-l.info
-rw-rw---- 1 majordom majordom 5 May 1 15:23 colm-wilkinson-l.passwd
-rw-rw-r-- 1 majordom majordom 0 May 1 15:28 colm-wilkinson-l.private
Also do a which sendmail to make sure the sendmail path is correctly defined
in majordomo.cf as I notice it is still set to the default which isn't always
correct... although I think you said you were getting some mail back so
that must be ok...
