Well, it would kind of help to know just how it doesn't work.  Do you get
an error?  What is it?  What happens if you run the command line yourself?
(Cat a file to the alias typed at the command line, removing everything
before and including the "|, and the final quote.)

Otherwise, I will assume that your aliases aren't line wrapped like they
were in your message.  Off hand, have you renamed archive2.pl to archive in
the same directory as the wrapper?  Your archive alias is trying to execute
it.
