Subject: digest wierdness

Has anyone seen the following message?

|------------------------- Failed addresses follow:---------------------|
user@domain.com ... transport smtp: 550 owner-list-digest... User unknown
|------------------------- Message text follows:------------------------|

the very strange thing about this is that the users receiving this
message are already receiving the non-digest version of the list! I
even tried to subscribe myself from work, where I _know_ the address
is good and I still get this error! So, does anyone have any ideas as
to why only the _digest_ version of the list would have problems? Why
would it be telling me that "user unknown" when I know the address is
good? Only certain addresses seem to have the problem, others work
fine. If anyone could shed some light on this I would be most
gratfull, I've got a large number of people signing up for digests and
thought everything was working (it didn't do this during testing).
