Subject: when to split a list up into pieces

I have about 100 majordomo lists (soon to go to about 200) and
am interested in how to make the call regarding how big a list
in terms of number of recipients is 'too big'.

A couple of the lists will be about 500-700 recipients in size,
but I could pretty easily break them up into 100-150 person pieces
and have the overall list basically mail to separate lists for
each of the pieces.

	Biglist = part1 + part2 + part3 + part4 + part5
	600 folks = 120 + 120   + 120   + 120   + 120

These lists aren't used too much, maybe a couple times per day max.

Is there a performance/response benefit of making this change,
or is just wiser to let the 600 person list stay in one piece?

How do I make the call ?
