If you check the headers on the message _reading of which is being
confirmed_, I'll bet you'll find that it was sent using Pegasus, which
allows a sender to check a box requesting "Confirm reading". (This is
_different_ from a request for a return receipt, which doesn't seem to
create these problems.) It's inconsiderate to post a message to a list
and to request confirmation of reading (as it tends to result in lots of
confirmations going to the list), so find the originator and scold
appropriately!
