(i'm not yet on the list so please reply to me directly)

my problem:

when a message is sent to a list and i will get this error:
> 554 /tools/majordomo-1.93/lists/ectf-tgccr.archive... cannot open:
Permission denied
> 550 /tools/majordomo-1.93/lists/ectf-tgccr.archive... Can't create
output:
Error 0

All the FAQs and info and manual pages tell me my problems are permissions
related.

the archive file is owned by majordom.majordom, all of the majordomo
executable files are owned by majordom.majordom and mod 664

I tried:

1)	chmod o+w listname.archive, which i shouldn't have to do, because
the permissions are set correctly in the first place, but to get
this one list working in the short run i'll do anything.

2)	removing the archive and trying again. this created a new
.archive which was owned by daemon.daemon, which lead me to check
the ownership of the scripts, all owned by majordom.majordom, so i...

3)	chmod ug+s on all the excecutables, but that doesn't help, and

4) add daemon to the majordom group, which doesn't work because this
machine is an NIS client and i don't have access to the NIS server
and it doesn't seem to even look at its local group directory.
I'm new to NIS, I've never worked in an environment that used it,
so if you know how to make its group file independent i'd really
	really really appreciated it.

any suggestions?
