Everyone's entitled to their opinion, even if they write FAQs. Heck, I
even have Reply-To: set on one of my lists simply because that's what they
demanded. (I erred in setting it back when I didn't know any better, and my
extremely nontechnical members got used to hitting just those sequences of
keys. They yelled and screamed when I took it off. There's an occasional
mail loop, and everybody lives with it.)

Huh? If you turn them off you lose all of the config syntax checking and
such. Things aren't guaranteed to fail gracefully if you mangle the config
file by editing it by hand. And if you can't reconfigure, you can't stop a
mail loop in progress.
