I am a list-owner for a majordomo list I recently set up. I am very
inexperienced, and have a lot to learn. I have only just subscribed to
majordomo-users. I have been having quite a few
difficulties with my list, perhaps in part because the version of
majordomo I have been using is not very recent.
I will recount one of my difficulties, and ask questions about other
difficulties later.
I know of two ways to insert lines into MyList's list
of subscribers which shouldn't be there. The first way is to set the
subscription policy to auto, when some would-be subscriber will insert
some rubbish into the file. The second way is to use
approve password subscribe MyList Rubbish
majordomo accepts Rubbish like
D.B.A.Epstein.warwick.ac.uk
and inserts them in the list. However
approve password unsubscribe MyList D.B.A.Epstein.warwick.ac.uk
receives the message from majordomo that the email address given is illegal.
In that case the only recourse is to bother the sysadmin people.
MY QUESTION: Does the most recent version of majordomo also behave in
this way? I hope not. majordomo ought not to accept anything into the
list which it won't allow to be removed by the list-owner. If
anything, it should be MORE restrictive on what it allows to be put
into the list than on what it allows to be removed, instead of the
other way round, as in the old version of majordomo which I am using.
