archive2.pl and EOL

Stupid newbie question I'm sure . . .

What would cause my MS Exchange users' 
messages to generate archive entries that frequently 
(though not constantly) end in an '=20' or simply '=' 
when they are written out.

The message(s) are text/plain, i.e., no fancy content
types. I'm stumped, help.
