I'll waste more bandwidth and mailbox space, I guess. It is not a
question of public humiliation, but more by way of reminding the entire
list to remember to post the essentials when asking this kind of question.
I'm on many lists and have been for a long time, and majordomo-users seems
more prone that most to questions from people that have not read the docs,
have not gone through the mailing list archives, or outright have not
followed the directions that are available. Then when they do ask
questions, they don't give the version they are using. In many cases,
like the recent lost subscriber lists, the issues asked about have been
discussed and changes made in recent versions that could definitely affect
the answer.
I've posted to support lists in my early days that were not thought
through and did not give enough details. Over time, seeing that I needed
to think through my questions more up front in order to get a reasonable
response, I'm much slower to ask snap questions to the list that cannot
possibly be answered as asked. I don't mean this as an arrogant know it
all response, but it is something out of my experience.
Now: could I have been kinder? Probably. In the middle of a day with
loose pieces flying everywhere, sometimes that is hard to remember when
the tendency is to post a quick answer and get back to the flying pieces.
FWIW....
