Problems with index

I am having a problem with the inddex command.

I have archive files being created but when I use the index command the 
files are not being read. 

I looked at the majordomo.cf and listname.config files and the pointers 
seem ok. I am archiving on a daily basis, e.g., yymmdd is appended to the 
list.archive file.. Could this be causing the error???

Is there a precedence listing for config files?
