That was exactly my point. The original poster (seemed to me anyway) to be
using the statement that "reply-to" COULD be of use to (I forget how it
was worded, but I know it meant) mailing lists to argue that RFC822
forbade their use. I may have missed something (I often do - grin), but it
seemed to me to be just the opposite.

Though I use it that way myself, I'm not arguing it is a good thing to do.
I'm not a programmer. I just run a small list. Evidently, I don't have the
same problems the rest of you do.

I've only run my list for about a year, but I was on the same list as a
user for many years before the first list-owner gave it up. The list was
always set up that way as has been every list I've ever been on during the
last 17 years or so except this one.

I have to go along with you even though I don't understand it since you
know a lot more about mailing lists and their problems than I do. It works
for me, however, and it is much more convenient for me and those on my
list.

But again, I don't advocate anyone else do it.
