I admit that I'm new to this, but my boss asked me to hunt down a list
server software, and we went with Majordomo over ListProc for the great
reason -- we don't want to spend $$$. In fact, although we'll ultimately be
running a dozen or so lists, none of them should be over thirty people
apiece. Why waste money on one of those huge programs no one needs? --
Besides, the bigger it is, the harder it can fall, or crash.
In addition, with Majordomo, when you have programmers around, you can look
directly at the code and get an idea of what's going on. That can make
things easier to fix. Setting up is only one little thing; it may take
time, but once it's set up, it's set up. So what if it takes a little
longer? ListProc will take time too, simply to get used to the software.
Plus, that company (for ListProc) has gotten you, mercilessly, because
you'll be waiting for their upgrades (which they can charge even more $$$
for), and although there may be shareware or freeware for it, they can say
they WON'T support it and catch you -- with more charges. One payment is
never enough; but Majordomo still has a company behind it (hence this list),
and doesn't charge those big $$$. And won't keep charging, either.
What else could I say?
Thanks.
