This is a problem; there are patches to get around it.  You might want to
check the majordomo-workers archives at
http://www.hpc.uh.edu/majordomo-workers.  A search for digest;patch;footer
should turn up some interesting hits.

Well, you'll note the variable digest_rm_footer, but you'll also note that
it doesn't work.  In the archives is a patch that makes it work.
