I have a feeling my first couple of tries at sending this one were
filtered by the administrativa setting, so I'll try to do this
without mentioning any special words.
I just setup version 1.94.4. I would like to restrict posting on my
lists to list members. To do this, I tried setting the restrict post
variable to the name of the list (the distribution file) as per
instructions. Upon testing, though, I discovered a problem.
It appears that when users are subscribing to the list without
specifying an e-mail address, it is their default reply to address
that is used. This seems to make sense, since it is likely that users
want to receive mail at their default reply to address.
Unfortunately, though, when verifying restrict post, it appears
Majordomo uses the from address. This does make some
sense for better authentication, but combined with the use of
reply to addresses when subscribing it creates a problem.
In our organization, many users have different from and reply to
addresses. This makes it difficult to use the restrict post feature.
Do I have any other option than leaving posting open?
