Mailqueue clean

Hi,

does anybody has a shell script to clean the mailqueue periodically ?

Is it dangerous to manually clean the mailqueue, by deleting all files in
the queue directory.
Can I safely (for the system stability) clean the queue (manually or with a
script) once a week for exemple, to remove all defered messages ?
