mungedomain not working

I've got a list where people are being disallowed because their server is
adding a server name to their domain.  I've mungedomain set to yes, but
it isn't equating things like jericho.gospelcom.net and gospelcom.net.

Is there something else besides mungedomain I need to fiddle with?
