S(> the list-owner get a message that the number of hops has been exceeded.
This is a "feature" of sendmail and most other sane MTAs. When an MTA
attempts to deliver a message, it counts how many "hops" are required to
make a connection to the remote host. Each router adds 1 to the hop count.
If the hop count exceeds a certain value, the MTA assumes an irrecoverable
problem, such as a router loop, that would prevent delivery and aborts the
connection. By default, sendmail.cf is configured with a MaxHopCount of
17, which is usually plenty.
